In the recent episode of “Hauler Talk,” NASCAR Vice President of Race Communications, Mike Forde, mentioned that NASCAR is considering the introduction of additional horsepower for 1.5-mile ovals and longer tracks. However, this change is unlikely to occur this season.
“We believe that the mile-and-a-half races currently offer some of the best racing, and there is a consensus that no changes are necessary at this time,” he stated. “We want to preserve what is already performing well. This consideration is more likely for 2027, and we plan to maintain the current setup for the rest of the year. At the end of the season, we will evaluate tracks like Darlington, Nashville, Gateway, and the short tracks, alongside the mile-and-a-half tracks, to assess their performance. Each year, teams adjust and optimize their cars, which impacts the racing dynamics.”
