On Friday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway, Nick Hoffman secured the victory, leading Bobby Pierce by three points. Determined to reclaim his lead, Pierce arrived at Saturday’s event at Senoia Raceway and achieved his fourth win of the year in the Billy Clanton Classic.
With 15 laps to go, the low lane became the preferred path, but Pierce defied expectations by moving to the top of Turns 1 and 2 to gain momentum on the leading Hoffman. During this maneuver, Pierce made contact with Ashton Winger, who was running third, as they met in the middle of the backstretch. Both drivers maintained control, and Pierce stayed in second place.
Shortly after, Hoffman missed his mark entering Turn 3, leaving an opening for Pierce to pass on the inside, with Winger following suit. The contest for victory was now between Pierce and Winger in the final laps, and Pierce managed to fend off the previous two-time World of Outlaws winner at Senoia to secure his first win at the Georgia track.
“When we had that caution, it seemed like the rubber disappeared for a moment, at least for a couple of laps off of [Turn] 2,” Pierce explained. “That’s what allowed me to make the move to second. Once we caught up to the lap cars, it was a choice between risking it all or settling for second. I noticed how much [Hoffman] was struggling behind the lapped cars.
“I went for it, and by then, my tires were worn out, causing me to drift momentarily and allowing Winger to get close. I really need to apologize to him; I cut him off. Plain and simple, I cut him off. But that was necessary to win; otherwise, I would have finished third or fourth.”
This victory marked the 46th of Pierce’s career with the World of Outlaws, bringing him within two wins of Shane Clanton, who is fourth on the all-time wins list. It also extended his points lead over Hoffman to three as he heads to one of his home tracks at Farmer City Raceway in two weeks.
Following Pierce, Winger, and Hoffman, Chris Madden and Ryan Gustin completed the top five.
